What is a deanery

Deanery is made up of all the Anglican parishes in a local area.  There are 12 deaneries in the Diocese of Truro.  Deanery Synod is the body of laity and clergy who represent all the local churches and make decisions about their collective life, future plans and finances.

East Wivelshire Deanery includes 32 churches and chapels, 140 sq. miles of land, from Upton Cross to Calstock, along the Tamar River to the sea, and from Rame head along the coast to Downderry.

The deanery is mapped into smaller benefices and parishes, grouped together under the guidance of five licensed priests and a large team of volunteer clergy and licensed lay ministers.
