I moved to Saltash with my family in 1986, to take up a post in the Dockyard as a Metallurgist. The area must have suited us as I’m still here – having eventually retired as Head of Laboratory Services in 2019. Looking for a local church, we settled in at SS Nicholas & Faith and again I’m still there!

We were made vey welcome and found plenty to keep us busy: my late wife Lesley was a Reader and also for many years leader of the SSNF Pre-School. 

Fairly early on I was invited (I think that’s the right word!) to become Churchwarden and more recently have added the role of Treasurer. I also became increasingly involved in the Deanery Synod – initially as a Parish Representative, then as part of the “On the Way” working group, and most recently as Lay Chair and as a member of the Implementation Team. I’m also Chair of Saltash Foodbank, so I rather think I must fit one of the definitions of a volunteer: a person who doesn’t know when to step backwards!
